How often we pray, and rightfully so, Lord of the harvest send forth laborers, Yet the Church has been overlooking the laborers within their own walls, the children and youth.
How are old ways of bringing up children in the faith holding us back from achieving what God intended for our children?
Children and youth ministries are located in the lower level of most churches. It is the mindset of “out of sight…strictly objects of mission vs. full partners in mission. We miss an amazing opportunity to Disciple them and invite them to use their God-given gifts to serve. The heart of the Prayer Covenant ministry is to equip children and youth to pray with and for others, to care for others and share their faith with others. To not be bystanders but active ministry partners.
The Power of the Prayer Covenant for Kids
Have you ever had a child pray over you? There are stories of people healed from cancer when children laid hands on them and prayed over them. When I first wrote, The Power of the Prayer Covenant for Kids, there was a woman who received a death sentence from her doctor. “Say goodbye to your family, you won’t be here at Christmas.” She had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She hadn’t been in church for a long time and drove through Kentucky looking for a church. She pulled in, went inside and there was the pastor. She shared the sad news and asked for prayer. She expected him to rally the elders or deacons of the church but instead he called children to come to him. He said don’t come if you sinned and not repented, come only if your hands and hearts are clean, lay hands on this woman and pray for her. They did and she was healed. Hallelujah.
God often uses children because He receives the glory. He shines brightly in these little ones. This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine, is a simple song we all sang in our Sunday schools growing up. Let’s invite the young ones to let their light so shine before men and glorify their heavenly father.
