In Third John, Chapter 1, verse 4, we read, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” We can all relate to this passage. If you are a parent there is no greater joy or encouragement than seeing your children growing in their faith, walking in truth, obeying Christ’s commands and living out their faith.
Prayer Resources for Children
I received this story recently from one of our leaders in a nation in South Asia where church leaders are focused on teaching children to pray while rooting them in the gospel. This father wrote,
My name is Nawaz Nazir. I am a father of three. My kids love to attend the Sunday school class each week. They always love to participate in different activities of their Sunday school class. For the past one month I have observed a huge change in the lives of my children. They have started praying for short periods, three times a day. They also have asked me and their mother to sit with them and pray. I have seen the prayer booklet and prayer cards in their hands. Last week I met with their teacher and shared the change we have been witnessing. She said that we have just finished 10 lessons of a beautiful curriculum called “The Prayer Covenant” focused on teaching about prayer and intercession. As a father of three I am very thankful to The Prayer Covenant ministry for this amazing spiritual change in my children. God Bless you and your team.
I believe no matter where we live in the world our desire as believers is the same, we long to see our children walking in truth and growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ. The greatest legacy we can leave our children is not wealth or education, as important and wonderful as those things are, but even more important is leaving a spiritual legacy – founded in the truths of God’s word as we continually point them to Jesus Christ the author and finisher of our faith; as we Help them understand the value Jesus has placed on them and their important role in his Kingdom.
Matthew 18 is a beautiful passage to share with children. In this passage Jesus made children the standard for greatness in His kingdom and he rebuked the disciples for not allowing parents to bring their children to him. Let us not stand in the way of Jesus blessing our children but let us intentionally invite them to spend time in his presence each day.
