Today’s testimony comes from South Asia. This pastor writes:
A Pastor’s Testimony from South Asia
South Asia for The Prayer Covenant
My name is Basharat Masih and I am serving as an assistant Pastor in Faith Pentecostal Church. Our Church has six Sunday Schools. I love to visit Sunday Schools and pray with the children. In September 2020 our Sunday schools started a new syllabus “The Prayer Covenant “. Our Sunday School Teacher shared with me the importance of the curriculum but honestly, I was not impressed because I thought every child in Sunday school knew how to pray. I suggested that she start a different syllabus.
Two months later, I got very sick and was hospitalized. Our Sunday school children along with their teacher came to visit me. They prayed for me. They stood in a circle praying for my health one after another. I felt a sense of deep satisfaction and relief. The confidence I witnessed in their praying as intercessors for me was simply outstanding. They learned this from “The Prayer Covenant “syllabus. I felt badly in my heart that I had been wrong when I requested the teachers to start a different syllabus. Now all six of our Sunday School classes are regularly using this wonderful prayer resource.
I was thrilled to receive this very forthright testimony. Why? Because too many church leaders assume children know how to pray and that there is no need to teach them to pray. But nothing could be further from the truth. We must teach children to pray just like Jesus taught His disciples to pray. And the Prayer Covenant focuses teaching children about Christ centered prayer–praying the will of God. Learning and understanding the names of God and his attributes. Children are so excited when they truly understand prayer and how to pray that they want to pray all the time. It gives them confidence as I have shared many times before to even lead prayer.
Let me encourage you to print out or order prayer cards. They are beautiful. Put them around the dinner table and together take turns praying one line of the prayer. Read the memory verses on the reverse side of the card. Challenge the children to memorize the corresponding verses. Award prizes – make it fun and exciting for them. Take time to simply sit quietly after praying, waiting on the Lord to speak. Invite the children to share what God may have told them. Be amazed at the profound truths sometimes shared when asked. Be encouraged. God is listening and he is responding to the prayers of His children.
