Do you ever feel afraid? Fearful of what others think of you? Fearful about your past? Fearful of what the future may hold?
The Bible tells us that there is no fear in love. John writes in I John 4:18, But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
The Remedy for Fear is Love
God’s remedy for fear is simply to love. Perfect agape love swallows up fear; it evaporates in its presence. Agape love is a Greek term and is the highest form of love—undefiled, unconditional love. It is defined as God’s love for mankind and our love for God.
The Depths of God’s Love
When you begin to know and understand the depth of God’s love, when you realize the value He has placed on you, His overwhelming, all-consuming, lavish love, every megabyte of brain space should not be used to worry about what others think of you, but to revel in God’s amazing love for you that fills you from the soles of your feet to the top of your head. The kind of love that makes you want to scream and shout, “World, I am loved, truly loved, by the God of the universe, my Creator. I am loved with an everlasting love. I am loved with a genuine, sacrificial, life-giving, perfect love found in the person of Jesus Christ—my Savior, my God, my King; my Abba! And I belong to Him. I am His child, His workmanship.”
I know it is not easy to comprehend, but it is true. It is why Paul wrote in Ephesians 3:17-19, And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
My prayer for you is that you may truly know and understand how much you are loved by the greatest Lover of all time, Jesus himself—a love that surpasses knowledge, that heals, that shields, that strengthens and protects, that always trusts, always hopes and always perseveres. A love that never fails.
