To truly know who you are, you need to know Whose you are. Peter eloquently wrote, But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (I Peter 2:9).You have been chosen. And as children of God, as part of His royal family, you have been called to follow Jesus. Not simply with words but with your actions.
We Are God’s Handiwork
The Apostle Paul wrote, For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). When you recognize you have been created by God for a specific purpose—to glorify Him and to do good works—it brings clarity and focus, sets boundaries, and defines your steps.
What might God be wanting you to do? We shared the other day that Eric Liddell was a great runner—he ran for the glory of God. Why? Because Eric was a devoted follower of Jesus and knew the purpose for which he was created. Tim Tebow is a professional athlete who played for the glory of God and unashamedly used every opportunity to praise Him—whether on the field or off. Why? For the very same reason.
Not everyone can be an Olympic runner or an all-star athlete. Whatever your gifts, you too are His masterpiece! His creation! His handiwork! He wants to bless you beyond anything you could ask or imagine. He asks you to offer your very best for God’s glory. He takes our gifts, no matter how small, and multiples them, just like He did when the small boy offered his five loaves and two fish to Jesus. The point isn’t what we have been given, rather what we give back to God.
A Powerful Defense…Prayer
The world is vying for our attention. Satan is working overtime to get to to lose focus, bring confusion and uncertainty, and throw us off track.
Do you know your greatest defense against these onslaughts and distractions? Prayer!
As you spend time in prayer, thank God for the talents and abilities He has entrusted to you. Ask God to help you steward them wisely and to continue to change you any way He wants so His ultimate plans and purposes will be accomplished in and through you for His glory alone.
