Dear Pastors, Parents, Sunday School Teachers, and Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Our prayer is that during these challenging times, you and your families are doing well physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Our passage today is Psalm 91—a favorite I’ve often prayed over our children. It’s in the Contemporary English Version, not only beautiful but child friendly.
Live under the protection of God Most High and stay in the shadow of God All-Powerful.
Then you will say to the Lord, “You are my fortress, my place of safety; you are my God, and I trust you.”
The Lord will keep you safe from secret traps and deadly diseases.
He will spread his wings over you and keep you secure.
His faithfulness is like a shield or a city wall.
You won’t need to worry about dangers at night or arrows during the day.
And you won’t fear diseases that strike in the dark or sudden disaster at noon.
You will not be harmed, though thousands fall all around you.
And with your own eyes you will see the punishment of the wicked.
The Lord Most High is your fortress.
Run to him for safety, and no terrible disasters will strike you or your home.
God will command his angels to protect you wherever you go.
They will carry you in their arms, and you won’t hurt your feet on the stones.
You will overpower the strongest lions and the most deadly snakes.
The Lord says, “If you love me and truly know who I am, I will rescue you and keep you safe.
When you are in trouble, call out to me.
I will answer and be there to protect and honor you.
You will live a long life and see my saving power.”
As we find ourselves seeking sanctuary in our homes with school closings, church services being cancelled or held online, and many working from home, the Prayer Covenant is a great way to keep your children occupied with fun, nurturing and spiritually strengthening prayer activities.
family altar
This is a wonderful time for children to experience the presence of Jesus through the Power of the Prayer Covenant. We want to help strengthen children in who they are in Christ so when these tough times come, they’re ready, standing firm and strong in the knowledge that they were chosen before the creation of the world, adopted as a child of God, and created for a purpose: to love God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. What better way to show we love Him than to spend time with Him in prayer. We see the family altar being strengthened especially during Covid. Jesus promises to draw near to us as we draw near to Him. Let’s take him at his word and trust in His unfailing promises.
PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you are our Refuge, our Hope and our High Tower. We run to you and are safe and secure. Thank you that we don’t have to be scared of diseases or disasters that can come upon us because you are our fortress. Thank you that you are our place of safety, our faithful God who always keeps His promises. Thank you for drawing near to us when we draw near to you. I ask your blessing upon the children and families of our nation and the world during this difficult time, that you will guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus and fill each one with your peace that passes all understanding. In Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen.
