Today is we conclude our topic on Dependence on the Holy Spirit. If we are dependent upon the Holy Spirit, we will be filled with the fruit of His Spirit and abounding in hope by his power.
The Spirit of God
And if that wasn’t enough, what an encouragement to know that the Spirit of God is lifting us up to the Father with great passion! He speaks in wordless groans for His children.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans (Romans 8:26).
The Holy Spirit Lives Inside Us
And the fruit of the Spirit also live inside each one of us!
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying one another (Galatians 5:22-26).
What a gentle reminder of our need to depend upon Him, each step of the way. The Holy Spirit is our source of power. If you have a lamp that’s not plugged in, it is not going to give light. It is the same for you and me. If we are not spending time in prayer, intentionally asking for His Spirit, we run on empty and are unable to bear eternal fruit.
The source of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control is found in Jesus and the power of His Holy Spirit. His gift to each one of us is His abiding presence. Prayer is crucial because it is life-giving.
Spending time with Jesus every day must be our number one priority. Spending time in His Word and spending time in prayer shows our dependence upon God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
Prayer
Let’s pray. Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you and praise you for loving each one of us unconditionally. Thank you for being longsuffering, patient and kind. Thank you that when we go astray you are still with us, gently leading us back home. Help us to be utterly dependent upon you through the power of your Holy Spirit. Come as our comforter, teacher and guide. Guide us in all areas of my life. Make us men and women after your own heart who daily seeks after you. Have your perfect way in and through us. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
