“Thank You For Teaching Us to Pray!” –Children from Medellin, Colombia
Today’s story is from Medellin, Colombia, where our ministry parters, New Generations Foundation adopted the Prayer Covenant for children several years ago and have been using it among at-risk children in impoverished neighborhoods.
I had the privilege of visiting these leaders and meeting some of the the children they were ministering to with the Prayer Covenant. The children presented me with a sign in Spanish which said, “Thank you Candy for giving us this tool to follow the Lord and inspire us to pray.” It really touched my heart.
Sharing the love of Jesus
New Generations ministers to children who have been sexually abused. Sharing the love of Jesus, they bring healing to broken lives, teach children how not to become a victim and disciple them in their faith.
Amparo Gallego, one of the leaders at the Foundation, said, “We are amazed about the Kids’ Prayer Covenant—really amazed! It has had a great impact on our kids! And proceeded to share these stories:
“My name is Simon and I am 10 years old. I’m always praying for our family’s health and for my studies. Last Christmas, I asked God for a Bible so I could grow close to God. I received a Bible as a gift and was able to spend time with God. I was having trouble with stealing. I asked God to help me not to steal any more. He answered my prayer. I am now asking God for a united family, surrounded by His love. I hope and pray it will happen.”
“My name is Lois. I am 9 years old. Thank you New Generation Foundation who gave us the Kids’ Prayer Covenant books. I have been given the opportunity to learn about grace, love and compassion. I’m so thankful that you have taught us how to pray and that this tool is so powerful because it tells us how we can communicate with God and how He responds to us. Thank you Candy, because we learned so much about prayer. We are so thankful for your book.”
Prayer:
Father God, in Jesus we see your righteous anger against those who would prey upon children. We thank you for safe places like the New Generations Foundation, and for allowing them to be ministers of spiritual restoration for the children who come there. Guard and protect them, and heal their hearts and memories. Lord God, we pray also for Lois and Simon, and all the other children who lift their prayer requests to you. Please grant the desires of their hearts in accordance with your gracious will. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
