We have a wonderful story from our partners in Colombia. He shares,
I consider The Prayer Covenant project to be one of the most beautiful and complete projects in which we have participated as a Church. In teaching God’s word to children, the Prayer Covenant is a well-structured guide which helps tutors in understanding the message of salvation in a dynamic way and activates the prayer lives of children.
It activates their senses–ears, eyes, mouths– and most importantly, their hearts. There was opportunity in each section to apply the teaching. For me, the most impactful was the popcorn prayer times. In these moments of class, the children expressed in their prayers what they have learned. Not only did they listen, but they also said in their own words what they had learned. The children became intercessors. Through the class you could see they lost the fear of participating and the shame of praying together aloud because they learned how to pray—not only asking for their needs, but also for the needs of others.
Peace of god
Another important teaching of the Prayer Covenant has been seeing children as an important part of the Church with the same abilities to receive and share the message of salvation, to pray and ask for the needs of others. The prayer Covenant reminds us that children are the present and future church.
Prayer Covenant for Children in Colombia
The PC invites children to draw closer to God and to know more about the Father’s mercy. My group of children are in Medellin. Most of them are victims of conflict with parents in prison, others are orphans, many are displaced and many live in extreme poverty. But in class, they rejoice. During our popcorn prayer time they feel hope, peace and comfort anticipating the Bible story time followed by more prayer.
Thousands and thousands of thanks and thousands and thousands of blessings for sharing this book with us.
Today’s story reminds me of Paul’s words in Philippians 4, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Please be in prayer for these precious children and leaders in Colombia, that God will continually comfort, guide and guard their hearts, filling them with His perfect peace.
