Jeremiah 33:3 is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. It says, “Call to me and I will answer and show you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” From personal experience, I can say that our Faithful God who not only hears, but answers prayer.
In 2010, I began praying a prayer that transformed my prayer life. Dr. Jerry Kirk was speaking on the Lordship of Jesus Christ. “Each morning I pray, ‘Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your grace that has made me your dearly loved child.” As he spoke of the surpassing love of God, his sermon inspired, equipped, and challenged me to pray the very prayer that empowered his ministry for over five decades because it was continually transforming him. This pastor, who had spent time with the Pope, Mother Theresa, and Billy Graham was still being transformed into the image of Christ? I was intrigued.
At the conclusion of his sermon, Jerry invited the congregation to enter into a covenant prayer partnership with him. He said, “If you pray for me for thirty days by name, I will do the same for you.” More than 500 accepted his invitation.
A Lifestyle of Prayer
That was the beginning of my life-changing journey of prayer. My husband and I began praying through the ten themes of that prayer and I can honestly say we began receiving immediate results. It was amazing. I began to notice that when I didn’t start my day with this simple prayer of commitment, I was not receiving the same opportunities to be a channel of His love and grace to those around me.
People have often asked me, “How do you know you are praying the will of God?” When we pray everything God desires for each one of us for ourselves and for whom we pray, rest assured, we are indeed praying His will.
Themes of The Prayer Covenant
The Prayer Covenant is based on ten themes: Grace, Love, Compassion, Repentance, Worship, Commitment, Dependence, Influence, Discipleship and Authority. Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your grace that has made me one of your dearly loved children. By your grace, make being with you, loving you and obeying you my highest priority. Empower me to love others the way you love me. Wash me clean from every sin. Enable me to praise you, O Lord, with all my heart. Jesus, be the Lord of my life today in new ways, and change me any way you want. Fill me with your Holy Spirit. Make me an instrument of your grace, truth, forgiveness, righteousness and justice. Use me today for your glory, as a witness to your kingdom and to invite others to follow Jesus Christ as Lord. Gracious Father, I pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
