We will conclude the theme of worship and pick up where we left off, sharing the story of the fallen woman anointing the feet of Jesus. Remember the pharisees were whispering among themselves, shocked that the Master graciously received this woman’s offering of worship and absolved her of all debt, guilt and shame. What utter inexplicable joy she must have felt.
Jesus Forgave…So Can You
Do you ever close your eyes and imagine what it would have been like to be in the room with Jesus physically? To worship Him, fellowship with Him, share a meal, or hear His voice audibly?
When Simon sought to belittle this woman’s deeds in both passages, one as a waste of money and one as being unworthy to be in the room, Jesus defended and praised her. He went even further, He rebuked Simon for not being a gracious host in following the usual customs of greeting Him with a kiss, washing His feet and anointing His head with oil. He applauded the fallen woman who probably never received a word of encouragement, affirmation, or praise in her life. Jesus said this nameless woman worshiped and loved much because she had been forgiven much.
Your Opportunity to Worship Jesus
We have all been forgiven much. We have all been given the opportunity to worship Jesus and show our love and devotion to Him just as this woman did over two thousand years ago. Are we making time for Jesus? Are we making Him the focus of our lives? Are we spending time with Jesus in prayer each day? Because when we do, abundant blessing will follow.
Prayer
Let us pray together, Dear Heavenly Father, my heart’s desire is to love, worship and adore you. My soul glorifies you and my spirit rejoices in you, my God and Savior. Thank you for releasing me from my guilt and shame. Thank you for accepting me just as I am. Help me rejoice in you always, in spite of my circumstances. Help me know that you are with me and for me. Help everything that I do, say, think and feel bring glory to you alone. May my offering of worship be acceptable and pleasing in your sight. Help me praise you and lead others to praise you, Jesus, because you are good and greatly to be praised. In your holy and matchless name, I pray, Amen.
