In John 13:35 Jesus said, By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. Compassion flows from love. And when you love like Jesus, it becomes a testimony to the whole world.
Show Compassion To Those You Meet
If we are going to follow in Jesus’ steps, we must show compassion to those we meet. As you ask God to empower you to love others the same way He loves you, He will answer your prayer and open up doors of opportunity for you to minister to someone. It may seem insignificant to you, but to the person on the receiving end of your kindness, it is invaluable.
When you care for someone who is sick or help a homeless person on the street, you are showing compassion. Christ has called His disciples to both love Him and love others. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind”; and, “Love your neighbor as yourself. ”In Luke 10:27, He made them of equal importance.
Liars Do Not Love or Show Compassion
In I John 4:20 we are warned that, Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.
Jesus went from town to town healing the sick, feeding the poor and preaching the gospel to crowds of people. The Bible tells us He was moved with compassion because He saw firsthand the helplessness of their condition (spiritually and physically). He said they were like sheep without a shepherd (Matthew 9:35-36).
Whom Might You Show Compassion To?
To whom might you show compassion today? A friend, co-worker or family member perhaps. My prayer is that Christ’s love will flow lavishly in and through you.
Prayer
Father, thank you for your compassion that fails not, that is new every morning. Thank you for your faithfulness. I pray that your love and compassion will fill our listeners today. I especially lift up Those that may be facing challenges. May they feel your everlasting arms around them and may they find rest in your presence. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
